The Patiala and East Punjab States Union (PEPSU) was a state of India, uniting eight princely states between 1948 and 1956. The capital and principal city was Patiala. The state covered an area of 26,208 km 2. Shimla, Kasauli, Kandaghat and Chail also became part of PEPSU.
Many princely states in Punjab were separate from Punjab which on 15th July 1948 AD. On the basis of an agreement formed a group of 8 native states and formed a New state named it ‘PEPSU’ ( Patiala and East Punjab State Union), the area of which was 26200 square kilometers.
