Vinayaka Krishna Gokak (9 August 1909 – 28 April 1992), abbreviated in Kannada as Vi. Kru. Gokak, was an Indian writer in the Kannada language and a scholar of English and Kannada literatures. He was the fifth writer [1] to be honoured with the Jnanpith Award in 1990 for Kannada language, for his epic Bharatha Sindhu Rashmi.
ಜೀವನ. ತಮ್ಮ ಹಲವು ಸಾಧನೆ, ಸಿದ್ಧಿಗಳಿಂದ ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಖ್ಯಾತಿಯನ್ನೂ, ಗೌರವವನ್ನೂ ತಂದು ಕೊಟ್ಟ ವಿನಾಯಕ ಕೃಷ್ಣ ಗೋಕಾಕರು ೧೯೦೯ ರ ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ ೯ ರಂದು ಹಾವೇರಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಸವಣೂರು ಎಂಬಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿದರು. ಅವರ ತಂದೆ ಕೃಷ್ಣರಾಯರು ವಕೀಲರಾಗಿದ್ದರು. ವಿನಾಯಕರು ಹುಟ್ಟಿದ ಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಸವಣೂರು ಒಂದು ಪುಟ್ಟ ಸಂಸ್ಥಾನವಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಒಬ್ಬ ನವಾಬನ ಆಡಳಿತಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು.

V. K. Gokak (1909-1992) wrote in Kannada and English, and edited this volume. A poet and playwright, he was principal of several important institutions and was president of the Sahitya Akademi. After an M.A. in English from Bombay university, he read for his master's from Oxford, graduating with an M.A. in 1938.
