Ottupulackal Velukkuty Vijayan (2 July 1930 – 30 March 2005), commonly known as O. V. Vijayan, was an Indian author and cartoonist, who was an important figure in modern Malayalam language literature.

Velukkutty was an officer in Malabar Special Police of the erstwhile Madras Province in British India.Formal schooling began at the age of twelve, when he joined Raja’s High School, Kottakkal in Malabar, directly in to sixth grade.
Oottupulackal Velukkutty Vijayan (O. V. Vijayan) was born on 2nd July 1930 at Vilayanchathannur, near Palakkad. He completed his primary education in Rajas High School, Kottakkal and Govt. High School, Koduvayoor. His higher studies was at Victoria College, Palakkad and Presidencty College, Madras.
O.V.Vijayan. The most famous story writer in modern Malayalam literature. A multifaceted personality, Vijayan was a novelist, cartoonist, political thinker, journalist and many more. His full name was Ottupulakkal Velukutty Vijayan.
O.V. Vijayan (1930–2005) published five novels, eight collections of stories, seven collections of political essays and one volume of satire. His second novel, Gurusagaram, won the National Sahitya Akademi Award. The novel also won the Kerala State Akademi Award and the prestigious Vayalar Award.
