William Cumming Rose (April 4, 1887 – September 25, 1985) was an American biochemist and nutritionist. He discovered the amino acid threonine , and his research determined the necessity for essential amino acids in diet and the minimum daily requirements of all amino acids for optimal growth.
Although he was American by birth, William Rose's screenwriting work displayed a uniquely English voice, from the gentle whimsy of Genevieve (d. Henry Cornelius, 1953) to the darkly offbeat wit of The Ladykillers (d. Alexander Mackendrick, 1955) arguably the blackest of Ealing's black comedies.
