Daniel Buckley (1985-1993) is the late brother of Maddie Buckley and Evan Buckley. He died a year after Evan was born leading their parents to become distant from Maddie and Evan.

Daniel and his older sister Maddie were a year apart and when he was four he was diagnosed with juvenile leukemia. Daniel's parents conceived his younger brother Evan Buckley in 1992 as a savior sibling since neither them or Maddie were matches for him. Unfortunately, the cells didn't graft and Daniel relapsed and died in 1993.

As a result, the family fell in their grief and were stigmatized for putting hope on Buck. They proceeded to move for and conceal the truth of Daniel's existence. Daniel's death hit family hard, as his parents were unable to properly care for their remaining children, causing them to fend for themselves. They would also get upset over the slightest thing that belonged to Daniel. Maddie yearned to inform Buck on the story but could never work up the strength.

In an alternate reality dreamed up by a comatose Buck, Daniel never died and survived into adulthood to become a doctor, working at the same hospital where his older sister was also a nurse. Having overcome his illness, Daniel is depicted as happy and bonding with his family who never went through trauma and are more loving.

When Buck realized that he had to go back to reality, Daniel attempted to dissuade him but Buck refused to stay.
