Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) College, the first degree college in the State, started functioning under the University of Calcutta only in 1947. Not that there was no attempt in the past in Princely Tripura to establish any higher educational institution.
Higher education in Tripura has its beginning with Maharaja Bir Bikram College (MBBC), the first-degree college in the state, established in 1947, and affiliates to Calcutta University (CU). This was followed by Ramkrishna Mahavidyalaya in 1950, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar College formerly known as Belonia College in 1964 and Ramthakur College in 1967, all affiliated to the CU .

Aug 10, 2022 · Agartala, Aug 10: Tripura University has secured B++ Grade in the 3rd cycle of assessment by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The Tripura University was in Grade B in the last cycle, it’s been two steps progression from where the University stood in the 2nd cycle.
With a CGPA of 2.63, NAAC has accredited the varsity with a ‘B’ grade. Tripura University provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral-level courses. To gain admission in courses offered by Tripura University, candidates need to appear for the Tripura University Entrance Test (TUET) conducted by the university.
