Badnam Basti (English: Infamous Neighbourhood [1]) is a 1971 Bollywood drama film directed by Prem Kapoor and adapted from an eponymous novel by Hindi novelist Kamleshwar. [2] Starring Nitin Sethi, Amar Kakkad, and Nandita Thakur, it is often described as India's first gay film. [3]
Briefly released in 1971 and subsequently lost for decades until its rediscovery in 2019, Badnam Basti is the debut feature of Indian New Wave filmmaker Prem Kapoor.
