    • Arrive in Tromsø. Get settled into your hotel and take a nap if you desperately need one. Spend the afternoon walking the pretty streets of Tromsø.
    • Tromsø. Tromsø started off as a fishing village but has grown to be a small, modern city. Visit the modern Arctic Cathedral, go shopping, or spend your time at a handful of the museums in town.
    • Ørnfløya and Sommarøy. Today is a low-key day. Feel free to have a leisurely breakfast in Tromsø. You can even spend the first part of the day in town, if there is more here that you want to do.
    • Senja & the Hike to Segla. The Ferry to Senja. This morning you will travel by ferry from the Sommarøy area to the island of Senja.
    • Arrival. We flew to Harstad/Narvik (EVE) airport and spent the first night at a hotel nearby. Depending on your flight times, you could easily drive directly to Lofoten on the first day already.
    • Drive to Lofoten – Reinebringen Hike – Reine. We had various options planned for our first day in Lofoten. It’s a long drive from Harstad/Narvik airport to Leknes (almost 4 hours), so we stopped at a beautiful viewpoint at Austnesfjorden right before Svolvaer to stretch our legs a bit.
    • Offersøykammen hike – Uttakleiv & Haukland Beaches – Lofotr Viking Museum. It was a grey cloudy day today without any sun on the forecast, so we decided to do a ‘shorter’ hike in the morning and visit some beaches, viewpoints, and a museum in the afternoon.
    • Ryten Hike – Nusfjord – Myrland Beach – Ballstad. The weather forecast for today was really uncertain again. Some apps showed rain for the whole day, the others – sun and clouds.

Northern Norway road trip itinerary (not including the Lofoten Islands) Fly into: Tromsø. The best jumping-off point for a road trip around this part of Norway is Tromsø.

    • Day 0: Fly into Oslo! You’ll find most international flights to Norway will fly to Oslo, which is perfect as it’s the first stop on our 10 day Norway itinerary!
    • Days 1-2: Explore Oslo. Welcome to Norway, home of the stunning turquoise fjords, towering mountains, and $8 hot dogs. Yes, it’s pricey and your wallet may never adjust, but trust me, the expense is worth it.
    • Day 3: Fly to Stavanger and Explore. Stavanger is the 4th largest city of Norway, although you probably wouldn’t have guessed that after arriving to this coastal town!
    • Day 4: Pulpit Rock/Preikestolen Hike (from Stavanger) Ready for a full day of awesome, sweaty, hiking? Yes, I promise the views are worth it and then some!

  5. May 22, 2023 · Plus driving in Norway is really easy, as the roads are all well-maintained and there’s very little traffic. Of course the bad news is, it’s still going to be expensive. At least, a car rental in Norway is going to cost more than rentals in southern Europe where you can get a car for like $50 per week. But!
