Venosa ( Lucano: Vënòsë [və'noʊzə]) is a town and comune in the province of Potenza, in the southern Italian region of Basilicata, in the Vulture area. It is bounded by the comuni of Barile, Ginestra, Lavello, Maschito, Montemilone, Palazzo San Gervasio, Rapolla and Spinazzola.
Venosa was the birthplace of the famous Latin poet Quintus Horatius Flaccus, more commonly known as Horace. Visitors can still see his birthplace today (but only from the outside) and a statue of him. In the main square, Piazza Umberto I, stands the Castle, which has an unusual portico.
Venosa, town and episcopal see, Basilicata regione, southern Italy. It is situated on the lower slope of Mount Vulcano, north of Potenza. Originally a settlement of the Lucanians (an ancient Italic tribe), it was taken by the Romans after the Samnite Wars (291 bc); from its position on the Appian.
