    Modena (UK: / ˈ m ɒ d ɪ n ə /, US: / ˈ m oʊ d-/, Italian: [ˈmɔːdena] ⓘ; Modenese: Mòdna; Etruscan: Mutna; Latin: Mutina) is a city and comune (municipality) on the south side of the Po Valley, in the Province of Modena, in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy.

    • Piazza Grande. Piazza Grande is the main square of Modena and has been the heart of the city since ancient times when it was used as a market and was the meeting place par excellence for citizens.
    • Modena Cathedral. The Cathedral of Modena, dedicated to St. Maria Assunta, is considered a masterpiece of the romantic style. It stands in the central Piazza Grande and was built in 1099 by the architect Lanfranco and the sculptor of bas-reliefs Wiligelmo.
