Leoben (German pronunciation: ⓘ) is a Styrian city in central Austria, located on the Mur river. With a population in 2023 of about 25,140 it is a local industrial centre and hosts the University of Leoben , which specialises in mining.

After the state capital Graz Leoben is the second largest city in Styria. It is one of the most important centres of the Austrian iron and steel industry. But even though Leoben is an important industrial city, it is still well worth a visit. The old town centre was founded on a loop of the River Mur.
