  5. Visitors to Lake Piru can rest and relax while casting their lines in the water from the shore or a float tube or while boating. Fishing licenses are required for all areas, including fishing from shore, kayaks and float tubes.

  6. Lake Piru holds approximately 82,000 acre-feet of winter run-off from the Piru Creek Watershed. Later in the year, UWCD makes conservation releases of the stored water into Lower Piru Creek, where it flows into the Santa Clara River, and is used to recharge groundwater basins.

  7. Quagga mussels are a problem at lakes across California, including Lake Piru Reservoir. The invasive species are extremely destructive, clogging pipes used for drinking water, irrigation and hydropower, and necessitating extensive containment efforts. They also block boat motors and harm native fish by altering the habitat and the food web.

  8. Until further notice, Lake Piru has suspended its joint Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) tagging program with Castaic and Pyramid Lakes and will not be tagging any vessels leaving Lake Piru. We do not anticipate that it will impact our ability to provide recreation services to the visiting public.
