Faisalabad District (Lyallpur District until 1979) [3] (Punjabi and Urdu: ضلع فیصل آباد) is one of the districts of Punjab province, Pakistan. According to the 1998 census of Pakistan it had a population of 3,029,547 of which almost 42% were in Faisalabad City.

Faisalabad District is one of the major contributor to the gross domestic product of Pakistan. It was named after James Broadwood Lyall, the British lieutenant governor of the Punjab. However, in 1977, the name of Layllpur was changed as Faisalabad in the honour of Saudi Arabian king Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz Alsaud. It has been divided into 346 UC’s.
