The Central Sanskrit University, Lucknow Campus, was established by an Act of Parliament in 2020. The Lucknow Campus has a chequered history. At the outset, it was Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Lucknow Campus, which sprang into existence in 1986 under the aegis of Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, New Delhi.
The Sansthan was established in 15th October, 1970 as an autonomous organisation registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 (Act XXI of 1860) for the development and promotion of Sanskrit all over the country. It is fully funded by Government of India.
