About NIT The Institute: The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya is one among the thirty-one NITs in India established under the NIT Act 2007 (Amended 2012) of the Parliament of India as Institutes of National Importance with full funding support from the Ministry of Education (Shiksha Mantralaya), Government of India.
The institute operates from a temporary campus at the Bijni Complex in Laitumkhrah, Shillong, of the North Eastern Hill University. The institute has been allotted a plot of land of about 300 acres (with another 73 acres planned to be added) at 25° 15' 22.00" N, 91° 44' 40.00" E in Sohra (Cherrapunjee) in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya for its permanent campus.
