Jogamaya Devi College, one of the oldest women’s colleges in Eastern India, was founded in 1932 by Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukgerjee to fight the scarcity of education centers for women in Kolkata. It has received the prestigious status of “Centre of Excellence in Women’s Education”.
Jogamaya Devi College is one of the oldest and leading women's colleges in Kolkata, India. It shares the same building with Asutosh College (day college) and Syamaprasad College (evening college) and is named after the wife of Sir Asutosh Mukherjee. [1]
Department of Botany (U.G. then I.Sc.) was established in 1957 under the leadership of Dr. Dhirendra Nath Mitra and Elizabeth Ukkuru to teach General Degree (Pass) course for girl students. With gradual increasing demands of women education, the Honours course in Botany was introduced in 1981.
