It was established in 1983 when the Asian Cricket Council was founded as a measure to promote goodwill between Asian countries being the only continental championship in cricket where the winning team becomes the champion of Asia. India are the current champions after winning the 2023 edition.
In 1993 the Asian Cricket Conference became the Asian Cricket Council. There are two categories of membership at the ACC – Full and Associate – with the Test-playing countries and ICC Associate countries (Hong Kong, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Thailand, UAE) being accorded Full Member Status with the rest of the member countries ranked as ACC Associates.

Jan 30, 2021 · Mr Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary, BCCI was on Saturday elected as the President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) following its AGM held virtually. Mr Shah will take over the reins from Mr Nazmul Hassan, President, Bangladesh Cricket Board. Mr Shah, 32, is the youngest administrator to be appointed as the ACC President.
