In a treehouse at the edge of Castle Rock, a small Oregon town, budding 12-year-old writer Gordie is about to begin an extraordinary trek into the heart of the northwestern forest. His best friend Vern has overheard his older brother and a friend talking about their discovery of a dead body in the woods.
In a 2011 piece entitled "25 years of 'Stand by Me'", writer Alex Hannaford opined that "[for] anyone older than about 33, Stand by Me remains one of the greatest films to come out of the Eighties." Hannaford added that the film "has a charm and depth that seems to resonate with each generation".
Stand By Me is a timeless film. Stephen King's story is skillfully brought to the screen under the direction of Rob Reiner, and the 1950s are brought back to life just as successfully as King so often does in his stories and novels, with the slicked back hair, the hot rods, and in the film, and excellent 50s soundtrack.
