In November 2018, Mazda added a new turbocharged petrol engine option from the CX-9 for the 2019 model year CX-5. It is a 2.5-litre Skyactiv-G turbocharged four-cylinder unit which produces 250 horsepower (190 kW; 250 PS) at 5,000 rpm on 93 AKI octane fuel and 227 hp on 87 AKI.
