  1. Hindu symbols are an integral part of Hinduism. As Hinduism is the oldest religion on Earth, it has more numbers of symbols than other religions. Each Hindu symbol has a different meaning and is used on different occasions. Hinduism symbols are also used as body tattoos in Western countries as well as in India.

    • AUM. In Hinduism, AUM is considered the primordial sound/vibration, that is present in everything that exists. OM is created from three sounds – Ahh, Ouu, and Mmm.
    • Six-Pointed Star (Shiva-Shakti Star) The Six-Pointed star (hexagram) also known as the Shiv-Shakti star is a powerful Hindu symbol representing creation.
    • Eight-Pointed Star (Asta-Lakshmi Star) In Hinduism, the eight-pointed star (which is formed by the intersection of two squares) holds sacred significance as it represents the 8 forms of goddess Lakshmi – the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
    • Swastika (Suwastika) The Swastika is a highly auspicious and positive symbol that symbolizes wealth, good luck, prosperity, the four directions, the four seasons, balance, harmony, sun’s energy, eternity, and the cyclic nature of the universe.

    • Om. Om or Aum is a spiritual Hindu symbol and sacred sound known as the sound of the entire universe used in meditation. The first syllable in any Hindu prayer, it’s chanted independently or just before a spiritual recitation and considered to be the greatest of all Hindu mantras.
    • The Tilaka. The Tilaka is a long, vertical mark, typically with a dot at the end. It’s made by applying paste or powder on the forehead of Hindu devotees, starting from just below the hairline down to the end of the tip of one’s nose.
    • Sri Yantra. Also known as the Sri Chakra, the Sri Yantra features nine interlocking triangles radiating from a central point called the ‘bindu’. The elements of this symbol have various interpretations.
