It was instituted by the Parliament in the Fifty-second Year of the Republic of India and was enacted on 29th September 2001 but came into practice from 1st march, 2002.
The Act shall extend to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir. The Act establishes a Bureau of Energy Efficiency which shall introduce stringent energy conservation norms for energy generation, supply and consumption.
