Salaam Bombay Foundation was started in 2002 to focus on adolescents in Mumbai’s slums. The tens of thousands, who grow up poverty-stricken and deprived, condemned to a life of hopelessness. Aimless kids who quit secondary schools, and face the risk of child labour and tobacco abuse.
We engage ‘at risk’ children through in-school leadership programmes and after-school sports, arts, media and vocational training academies. These programmes build their self-esteem and give them the confidence to stay in school.
Our Mission. To positively impact the health of children in rural India by making their schools tobacco–free. We do this by engaging all the stakeholders in the ecosystem, creating education modules on tobacco control, and increasing awareness of good health, hygiene and nutrition practices.
