Oct 31, 2013 · Reason: The purpose of the code change is to define the words “walking surface” when used one after the other in conjunction. The current code uses the term walking surface repeatedly in chapter 10 but does not define it in any manner thus leaving it open to wide interpretation. By defining the term we establish a clearer area of enforcement.

Aug 22, 2024 · The 2018 IRC does not define "eave." I would define "eave" as a horizontal roof edge. Eaves may or may not overhang. Google likes the Oxford Languages definition, which it claims is "the part of a roof that meets or overhangs the walls of a building." Again, no need to overhang. Cheers, Wayne

But 603.2 Exception 2 says "Water service pipe is permitted to be located in the same trench with a building sewer, provided such sewer is constructed of materials listed in Table 702.2."
