You can define a jar artifact in the module settings (or project structure). Right click the module > Open module settings > Artifacts > + > JAR > from modules with dependencies. Set the main class. Making a jar is then as easy as clicking "Build artifact..." from the Build menu. As a bonus, you can package all the dependencies into a single jar.

However, it works with version 2.3 and later of the plugin. So use the fully qualified name of the plugin to specify the version: -Dfile=<path-to-file> -DgroupId=<myGroup> \. -DartifactId=<myArtifactId> -Dversion=<myVersion> \. -Dpackaging=<myPackaging> -DlocalRepositoryPath=<path>. maven-install-plugin documentation.
Unfortunately you need to spell out each jar in the manifest (not a biggie as you only do once, and you can use a script to build the file or use a build tool like ANT or Maven or Gradle). And the reference has to be a relative or absolute directory to where you run the java -jar MyJar.jar. Then execute it with. java -jar MyJar.jar
