Jan 13, 2021 · Although it’s one of the most famous tales collected under the title Arabian Nights (or 1,001 Nights), the tale of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves was not originally part of the collection at all. Instead, Ali Baba, Aladdin, and Sinbad the Sailor were all ‘orphan tales’ added in the eighteenth century by a French translator, Antoine Galland.

" Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves " ( Arabic: علي بابا والأربعون لصا) is a folk tale in Arabic added to the One Thousand and One Nights in the 18th century by its French translator Antoine Galland, who heard it from Syrian storyteller Hanna Diyab.
Ali Baba lifted his brother and carried him back home so that the family could bury him properly. The next day the thieves returned to their hidden cave with more treasure that they had stolen. The thieves’ leader expected to see the lifeless body of the man he had killed – but it wasn’t there!
