"The Long Fall" is the third-to-be-broadcast episode of Starcom: The U.S. Space Force. It is actually the series pilot.
Dash's Starmax Bomber - with Slim, Crowbar, and two F-1400 Starwolves aboard - is pursued over Saturn's rings by General Von Dar's Shadowbat plus two Parasites. StarCom's new ADS (that is, Automated Defense Satellite) sends the Starmada forces fleeing, but also fires on at the Star Wing forces...nearly killing all three Colonels before Lieutenant Carver activates the emergency shutdown. Arriving back at the Ring Station, Dash and Crowbar discuss what might be wrong with the ADS, and how it can be repaired. Slim, however, points out that regulations prohibit them from doing anything.
Emperor Dark learns about StarCom's new defense system. He orders Generals Von Dar, Torvek, and Malvanna to steal it for him. With the ADS disconnected by Crowbar so he can fix it, and with Dash filling out the insultingly-high stack of clearance-forms, the Starmada attacks StarCom Headquarters Saturn. The Ring Station's fuel-regulator is damaged, and its orbital stabilizer is knocked out, along with its artificial gravity. As the crippled space-city plunges toward Saturn's rings, all three Colonels commandeer an adrift fuel-transporter in a last-ditch effort to remedy the situation.
All three Shadow Force Generals capture the StarCom satellite, which they tow via Magna Lock back to the Shadow-Star. But the ADS's backup-system suddenly and randomly opens fire on those who commandeered it (because Slim accidentally damaged the main relay-circuit by disrupting Crowbar's unauthorized repair-job). Even worse, "His Supreme Excellency" overhears that Von Dar and Malvanna were planning (without Torvek's knowledge) to use the satellite against him; being Emperor Dark, he does not take this well.
Back at StarCom Headquarters Saturn, Admiral Brickley commends all three Colonels for saving the Ring Station...but reprimands them for leaving it wide open to the Shadow Force to begin with. Crowbar, Dash, and Slim "get off easy" with 3 months of reactor-mass disposal-duty.
