Since Mojeek results comes directly from our own index we do not need to send your query to another search engine over the internet. This, along with our own search technology, means Mojeek returns search results for the majority of queries in less than 300ms with a median response time of 88ms. Nov 19, 2020 · Mojeek was built with the purpose of providing a genuine alternative source of information, this means not relying on anyone else’s search technology. We have built all software from the ground up so we are not dependent on anyone. The are only seven other genuine search engines that index the Web; those covering the English language are Google, Bing, and Gigablast (All based in the USA) and Yandex (Russia).

Other privacy search engines are actually metasearch engines which pay or partner with a crawler-based search engine to gain access to their index; as shown here. Dec 8, 2020 · Mojeek doesn't implement any kind of specific user tracking, whether that be at the time of visit or subsequently via standard logs, which Mojeek does keep. These logs contain the time of visit, page requested, possibly referral data, and located in a separate log, browser information.

The debate about technical choices and hurdles, the ethics of search, as well as the value of fledgling engines in the era of Google’s dominance raged on for another 48 hours after the initial livechat.. Here are some of my takeaways from that and from my own deep dive into the world of Mojeek.
