Apr 3, 2012 · Dhamma Giri, meaing 'Hill of Dhamma' is one of the world's largest Vipassana meditation centres. It is co-located with the Vipassana Research Institute at Igatpuri in Maharastra, approximately three hours drive from Mumbai. The center offered its first course in 1976. Today tens of thousands of students study here every year.

Dhamma Giri is situated in the town of Igatpuri which is about 137 km from Mumbai on the Mumbai -Nasik Central Railway route. From Igatpuri station, taxis and three- wheel taxis (autos) are availabe for Dhamma Giri. It would take about 10-15 minutes to walk from the station.
On the adjacent land to the east of Dhamma Giri, Sayagyi U Ba Khin village is quickly taking shape, where meditators will be able to live in a conducive Dhammic atmosphere. Dhamma Tapovana, to the west of Dhamma Giri, is the first centre built exclusively for long courses.
