Panasonic, then Matsushita Electric, was founded in 1918 by Kōnosuke Matsushita as a vendor of duplex lamp sockets. In the 1920s, Matsushita began regularly launching products. In 1927, he produced a line of bicycle lamps that were the first to be marketed with the National brand name.
- He set up his company in the basement of his tenement. Matsushita left Osaka Electric Light Company in 1917 to set up his own company. To be precise, he had no capital, a formal education, or experience in the manufacturing industry.

- He invented a reliable battery-powered bicycle lamp. In 1923 the popular Panasonic company released a Bullet-shaped bicycle lamp. This battery-powered bicycle lamp was actually an idea by Konosuke Matsushita.
