Howard Nemerov (February 29, 1920 – July 5, 1991) was an American poet. He was twice Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry to the Library of Congress, from 1963 to 1964 and again from 1988 to 1990. For The Collected Poems of Howard Nemerov (1977), he won the National Book Award for Poetry, Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, and Bollingen Prize.

Howard Nemerov (1920–91), one of America’s finest poets, was also arguably the wittiest. In 1978 he received the Pulitzer Prize in Arts and Letters and in 1977 the National Book Award for his Collected Poems.
He won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award in 1977 with The Collected Poems of Howard Nemerov, and he also served as poetry consultant to the Library of Congress in 1963 and 1964, as a Chancellor of The Academy of American Poets beginning in 1976, and as Poet Laureate of the United States from 1988 to 1990.
