Kattingeri Krishna Hebbar (15 June 1911 – 26 March 1996) was an Indian painter and art educator. He is well known for his paintings that captured the social life of the common people in India. [1] . Inspired by traditional Indian art, he combined the Western art techniques with his paintings to create a unique style of his own.

Dec 14, 2023 · Kattingeri Krishna Hebbar was born in 1911 at Kattingeri in the Udupi district of Karnataka. His father used to make clay idols of Lord Ganesha during festivals and this background in folk art helped Hebbar decide that he wanted to pursue art as a career.
Hebbar was inspired by the illustrations of Jain manuscripts, Mughal miniatures and Ajanta murals. He was also highly influenced by Paul Gauguin and Amrita Sher Gill. In his work, he harmoniously blended the traditional Indian forms with elements of Western art such as surrealism and abstract art.
