Premise [ edit ] The Armstrongs and Daleys, two married couples with very different marriages but a close friendship live next-door to each other in suburban Iowa (presumably the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area).

The Daleys are a blended family: Ann is a construction engineer who has son Scott from a previous marriage, who's a little rebellious; Jim, who works at his family's dairy farm. has an adopted Vietnamese daughter; and Ann and Jim have son Willie together.
