The institute had six constituent schools and offered programmes in business, engineering, science, health sciences, as well as education & humanities.
Waterford Institute of Technology was originally established in 1970 as a regional technical college. In 1998 it was granted Institute of Technology status and has since become one of the largest of its kind in Ireland. There are both undergraduate and postgraduate courses available at the institute.

Waterford Institute of Technology is one of the largest institutes of technology in Ireland. It was established as a Regional Technical College in 1970, and was the first to be awarded Institute of Technology status in 1998.
