Robert Louis Behnken (/ ˈ b ɛ n k ə n /; born July 28, 1970) is an American engineer, a former NASA astronaut, and former Chief of the Astronaut Office. Behnken holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering and the rank of colonel in the U.S. Air Force, where he served before joining NASA in 2000.

Bob Behnken was selected as an astronaut by NASA in 2000 and is a veteran of three space flights. A native of Missouri, Behnken flew space shuttle missions STS-123 in March 2008 and STS-130 in February 2010.
At Caltech, Behnken earned a PhD in mechanical engineering with a focus on nonlinear control in gas compressors. His research innovated both software development and hardware building, and he developed an expertise in algorithms and robotics.
