David John Chalmers (⫽ ˈ tʃ ɑː l m ər z ⫽) is an Australian philosopher and cognitive scientist specializing in the areas of the philosophy of mind, and the philosophy of language.
Officially I am University Professor of Philosophy and Neural Science and co-director of the Center for Mind, Brain, and Consciousness. I’m also Honorary Professor of Philosophy at the Australian National University and co-director of the PhilPapers Foundation.
Jun 24, 2023 · Christof Koch, a neuroscientist, lost a wager with Chalmers in 1998 that the brain's mechanism of consciousness would be discovered by 2023. The bet was settled at a conference in New York, where a study testing two theories of consciousness showed mixed results.
