Umberto I (Italian: Umberto Ranieri Carlo Emanuele Giovanni Maria Ferdinando Eugenio di Savoia; 14 March 1844 – 29 July 1900) was King of Italy from 9 January 1878 until his assassination in 1900. Umberto I was the king of Italy from 1878 to 1900 and belonged to the 'House of Savoy.' He was also known by his nickname, “il Buono,” meaning “the Good.” After he ascended to the throne, he assumed the title “Umberto I of Italy,” instead of “Umberto IV of Savoy.”
