Charles Maurice de Talleyrand (born February 2, 1754, in Paris, France—died May 17, 1838, in Paris), was a defrocked French Bishop, diplomat, foreign minister, and politician.
Initially a cleric, Charles-Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord was chaplain in the parish of Saint-Pierre-de-Reims in 1775, in which capacity he was present at the coronation of Louis XVI. Made Abbot of the wealthy monastery of Saint-Rémi-de-Reims, he was ordained priest in 1779.
