John Edmund Andrew Phillips (August 30, 1935 – March 18, 2001) [1] was an American musician. He was the leader of the vocal group the Mamas & the Papas and remains frequently referred to as Papa John Phillips.
In 1998 the lineup was John Phillips, Scott McKenzie, Chrissy Faith, David Baker and Janelle Sadler. After John Phillips and McKenzie retired permanently from touring, Mark Williamson was brought in. John Phillips wanted the New Mamas & the Papas to make an album, but could not commit to it.
