Steve James (born July 15, 1950 – January 6, 2023) was an American folk blues musician.A multi-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter, James operated in the fields of acoustic and folk blues. Without the benefit of promotion from a major record label, James had secured his fan base from consistent touring.

His illness was brief but devastatingly fast and he was unable to say goodbye properly to many of his valued and beloved friends, artistic colleagues and students.

The cause was glioma, a brain cancer. A native New Yorker, Steve James developed an early fascination with blues music and the guitar through his father’s record collection.
