In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Helios ( / ˈhiːliəs, - ɒs /; Ancient Greek: Ἥλιος pronounced [hɛ̌ːlios], lit. 'Sun'; Homeric Greek: Ἠέλιος) is the god who personifies the Sun. His name is also Latinized as Helius, and he is often given the epithets Hyperion ("the one above") and Phaethon ("the shining").
A handsome Titan with flowing hair, driving a golden chariot pulled by four fiery steeds across the sky. That was the image that would come to the minds of ancient Greeks when they thought of Helios. To them, he was the representation of the sun and sunlight, traveling across the sky every day.

It was erected in the ancient Greek city of Rhodes in 280 BC. Ancient texts claim that the statue stood at about 70 cubits, which is around 32 meters (105 ft.).
