Oct 13, 2000 · Overview. Julia, an only child of an affluent, bank owning family living in Madrid, escapes from her family to get over her grief that her boyfriend has been imprisoned. Julia is a well educated woman, having studied in Switzerland and England, who wants to become a writer.
Set in Spain, 1947, the film centers around young Julia and her search for spiritual renewal after her boyfriend, Juan Miguel, is imprisoned for political reasons. Leaving behind her home and the middle class upbringing of her parents, Julia travels to her aunt's home in an Austrian village.
Julia leaves Madrid suffering a deep depression after her boyfriend is jailed.
