Captain Carroll needs to hire, the the worst way, a first-mate for his three-masted cargo ship, the "Marigold," sailing to Manila and Singapore, and does so by hiring Woolf Barstow, whose track record includes the loss of three ships.

4/10. Sort of like a live action Popeye cartoon mixed with some Pre-Code sensibilities. planktonrules 9 January 2014. The film begins with a ship's captain agreeing to take on Woolf Barstow as his first mate. This is unusual because Barstow has a horrible reputation as ship after ship on which he served sank!
