When Guam is attacked by the Japanese during World War II, U. S. Navy radioman George R. Tweed and five other Americans escape to the center of the island. Though the other men are all eventually killed, Tweed evades capture and takes refuge in a leper hospital run by a dedicated priest, Father Pangolin.
