Prelude to Madness or Loveless Lovers (Italian: Amanti senza amore) is a 1948 Italian drama film directed by Gianni Franciolini and starring Clara Calamai, Roldano Lupi and Jean Servais. [1] It is inspired by the 1889 novella The Kreutzer Sonata by Leo Tolstoy . The film's sets were designed by the art director Piero Gherardi.
Juan Gonzalez is a 30 year old man who has suffered paranoid schizophrenia and psychosis since he was a child. The only person who knows about his problem is his wife, Ana, who believes he has managed to control his illness by taking his medication. However, the situation suddenly turns worse as Juan experiences new paranoid episodes connected to his childhood, and his marriage begins to destabilize.
