Synopsis. Abbas, a resident of Cairo, is appointed by the government to hold the office of supervisor in a post office in a small village in Upper Egypt.
Abbas Hussein is a Cairo mailman who is promoted to postmaster of a remote village in the south. The film chronicles the drudgery of his daily existence, plagued by boredom and loneliness, surrounded by a backward, hostile and uncomprehending population of peasants and petty functionaries.
