Krajem 1941. godine Gestapo je formirao prvi koncentracijski logor u Jugoslaviji - Lager Niš. U logor su smješteni politički zatvorenici, taoci, Židovi i uhvaćeni bolesni partizani. Okosnicu priče čini sudbina niške obitelji Zarić, oca i sina, a u prvom planu su događaji koji se odvijaju u logorskoj sobi dvanaest, nazvanoj soba smrti.
