On the margins of Tokyo, a family is united by fierce loyalty and a penchant for petty theft. One day the father and son meet an abandoned little girl, and, despite their poverty, the family takes her in. But an incident will expose their secrets that upend their tenuous, below-the-radar existence.
When the young son is arrested, secrets are exposed that upend their tenuous, below-the-radar existence. A Japanese couple stuck with part-time jobs and hence inadequate incomes avail themselves of the fruits of shoplifting to make ends meet. They are not alone in this behaviour.
Overview. After one of their shoplifting sessions, Osamu and his son come across a little girl in the freezing cold. At first reluctant to shelter the girl, Osamu’s wife agrees to take care of her after learning of the hardships she faces.
