The House of the Dead ( Russian: Мёртвый дом, romanized :Myortvyy dom) is an 1932 Russian film directed by Vasili Fyodorov from a script by Viktor Shklovsky, based on the novel of the same name by Fyodor Dostoevsky. [1] Shklovsky changed the name of the script several times, eventually calling it The House of the Dead ( Mertvyi dom ).

In Russia that question is much more fraught and explored with a much deeper appreciation for how truly conflicted the man himself was. This movie is a good summary of those debates condensed into a fictionalized portrayal. The ending of this leaves the question of Dostoevsky's relationship with socialism ambiguous.
