Jagdish Singh Khehar (born 28 August 1952) is a former senior advocate and a former judge, who served as the 44th Chief Justice of India in 2017. Khehar is the first chief justice from the Sikh community. He has been a judge in Supreme Court of India from 13 September 2011 to 27 August 2017 upon superannuation.
On 4 January 2017 J. Jagdish Singh Khehar forged history as the Supreme Court’s first Sikh Chief Justice. He spent six years at the Supreme Court including eight months as the Chief Justice. Born in Nairobi, Kenya on 28 August 1952, J. Khehar acquired Indian citizenship in 1965.
