Dame Margaret Evelyn de Arias DBE ( née Hookham; 18 May 1919 – 21 February 1991), known by the stage name Margot Fonteyn, was an English ballerina. She spent her entire career as a dancer with the Royal Ballet (formerly the Sadler's Wells Theatre Company), eventually being appointed prima ballerina assoluta of the company by Queen Elizabeth II.

At the age of 14, Fonteyn joined the Vic-Wells Ballet School, what is known as the Royal Ballet School today. She did very well and advanced quickly through the company. By the age of 20, Fonteyn had performed principal roles in Giselle, Swan Lake, and The Sleeping Beauty. She was also appointed as Prima Ballerina.
Fonteyn and Robert Helpmann formed a dance partnership and successfully toured together for several years. Fonteyn also danced with Michael Somes during the 1950s.
